PANCHVATI PROJECT

Bhoomi has now taken up a unique concept of 'Panchvati' . Under this project five useful trees with medicinal values and fruit bearing trees are planted on the common land in the villages and the volunteers from the village are entrusted with the job of aftercare of the plants. The idea is to inculcate the feeling of closeness to nature and its protection in the young minds and to promote the culture of sitting together at a common platform under the trees to discuss the village problems .Thus increasing the cohesion between diffrent sections of the society and to create a bond between elders and the young . At the same time promoting the efforts to save and nurture the nature .

The first such programme was held at village Ghukkarwal near Mahilpur in Distt Hoshiarpur ,Punjab on 15-3-09. The response of the villagers was very encouraging . An awareness seminar about depleting ground water table and methods to improve it was also held.

The Bhoomi members along with their families took an active part in this programme. It was quite a learnig exercise for the young kids who have never been to the villages.

The efforts of Bhoomi which has been engaged in such programmes have been lauded by Mr Avinash Khanna ,MP from Hoshiarpur who himself has taken up the issue of depleting water table in a big way. Bhoomi parivar commits itself to whole heartedly work for envirnmental issues

Mr BM Batra , President MC Hoshiarpur was the Chief Guest and Sh Ravinder Aggarwal XEN Water and Sewerage Board presided over the function . Mr. Sandeep Tiwari , Ex. Officer MCH was the Guest of Honour . Dr Rajender Sharma ,President of Bhoomi , made the presentation on the project and described in detail the working of the rain water harvesting model for recharging the ground water . he informed that a real model is working at the premises of Sh Naval Jain, at Bharwain Road Hoshiarpur,Punjab. This project was taken up in technical collaboration with Punjab Agricultural University Ludhiana, Punjab,India. Dr Adarsh Pal Vig , Reader, Botany and Eviornment Sciences , Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar , Punjab . in his key note address explained the need to salvage the ground water and avoid its misuse. Because only ground water is fit for drinking purposes without any treatment . Water from all other sources is to be treated before it becomes fit for human consumption. He discussed in detail about the threats to underground water reserves and its subsequent ill effects . In easy to understand way he presented certain stark truths about the water misuse , wastage and urgent need to safeguard our lifeline -THE WATER. Audience was amazed to know from him that only less than 1% of the total water available on this earth is available for human consumption-and that too we are polluting and converting into unfit for drinking. Sh Sandeep Tiwari , EO of MCH and Er, Ravinder Aggarwal , Ex . Engineer of Water and Sewerage Board also stressed the need for water saving and promised all help for implementation of Rain water Harvesting Project in Hoshiarpur. President of MCH SH BM Batra also ensured all help and volunteered for installing the RWH at his residence. After hearing to all these presentation the audience was so impressed that , Jain Sabha Hsp. announced to implement RWH in a schools run by it and in the upcoming Jain Colony at Bharwain Road. Similarly Asha Kiran Society decided to implement in its school for mentally challenged children . Many individuals came forward for installing RWH in their homes. Encouraged by the response BHOOMI got from the people , its Executive has decided to hold similar presentations in schools , colonies , mohallas and community buildings. I, congratulate my team members for the untiring efforts they put in to make this show a success . Everyone worked very hard and deserve the credit.
